Darya Klishina’s Sponsorship Deals with Nike and Red Bull

Twenty-year old Russian long jumper Darya Klishina has everything going for her – she won the U-23 European Championships and the European Indoor Championships in 2011, her youthful good looks have made her a media darling, and she has struck sponsorship deals with two major brands Nike and Red Bull. She is believed to be the next big thing, attracting attention like compatriots Anna Kournikova and Yelena Isinbayeva. And there are big expectations from her at the London 2012 Olympics.

Nike ‘Always On’ with Darya Klishina

Nike is one of the most recognized brands in the world, and a leading USA-based sportswear and athletic-equipment supplier. It sponsors some of the best sportspersons on the planet, with its list of current and former athletes and players including Tiger Woods, Maria Sharapova, Michael Jordan and Roger Federer. Klishina now joins this esteemed list, having signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement with the company.

While the exact details of her sponsorship deal are not known, she features on the official Nike site with an ‘Always On’ slogan. She shares the feature stories page with the likes of Christiano Ronado and Alexandre Pato. More recently, on May 28th this year, Klishina was a guest at the Nike Free Moscow event, where the company was promoting its Nike Free footwear technology, which offers the same effect and feel as running barefoot. The thin and flexible sole of Nike Free athletic shoes are designed keeping in mind the benefits of running barefoot, which helps in the development of the feet’s inactive muscles. Klishina, who also trains barefoot frequently, shared her training tips at the event.

Klishina’s Energy Impresses Red Bull

It is only natural that leading energy drink brand Red Bull signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Klishina, whose athleticism and boundless energy has catapulted her to fame. Again, while the exact details about the sponsorship have not been made public, the long jumper is featured on the athlete profiles section of the official Red Bull website. As with fellow Nike star Maria Sharapova, some of the focus is also on Klishina’s photogenic good looks, as she is seen posing with and next to a Red Bull can in her interview.

Klishina’s Rise to Fame

Klishina, who is currently ranked number two in the world, played volleyball as a teen before deciding to shift gears and focusing on long jump. At 13, she trained with well known coach Olga Shemigon and started making an impact at national and international sporting competitions. Her current best record is an excellent 7.03m at a national event in Zhukovsky. She has admitted that she is training hard for London 2012 and her immediate goal is to stay injury-free. If she is able to live to up to expectations at the upcoming Olympics, there is no doubt that her sponsorships with Nike and Red Bull will be extended. Klishina may also find a slew of other big-name brands approaching her with sponsorships deals.
